Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 May 2026

This privacy policy explains what information BuyerBench collects when you visit buyerbench.co.uk, how we use it, and your rights under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

Who we are

BuyerBench is an independent UK product recommendation website operating at buyerbench.co.uk. For privacy enquiries, you can contact us via the contact page.

What we collect

Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site. This includes information such as which pages you visit, how long you spend on them, your approximate location (country and region only), the device and browser you’re using, and how you arrived at the site. This data is anonymised and aggregated — we cannot identify you personally from it.

Affiliate tracking cookies. When you click an affiliate link on BuyerBench, the destination retailer (such as Amazon, Decathlon, or Thomann) may set cookies on your device to track whether you make a purchase. These cookies allow them to attribute the sale to BuyerBench and pay us a commission. The retailers’ own privacy policies govern how they use this information.

Contact form submissions. If you contact us via our contact page or by email, we’ll receive whatever information you choose to share — typically your name, email address, and the content of your message. We use this only to respond to your enquiry.

Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically logs basic technical information about visitors (IP address, request time, page requested) for security and performance purposes. This is held briefly and then deleted as part of routine server operation.

How we use this information

We use the data we collect to:

Improve the site — understanding which articles are useful, which need updating, and where readers struggle.

Earn affiliate commissions — without affiliate tracking, the site cannot operate. This is how we fund our work.

Respond to enquiries — if you’ve contacted us, we use your contact details to reply.

Maintain site security and performance — preventing abuse, ensuring uptime.

We do not sell your personal data to anyone, and we do not use it for advertising profiling beyond the analytics described above.

Cookies

BuyerBench uses cookies in the following ways:

Essential cookies are required for the site to function — these include session cookies for the WordPress system. We don’t ask consent for these because the site can’t operate without them.

Analytics cookies are set by Google Analytics. You can opt out of these via our cookie consent banner when you first visit the site, or by adjusting your browser settings.

Affiliate cookies are set by third-party retailers when you click an affiliate link. These are governed by the retailer’s own privacy policy, not ours.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

Request access to any personal data we hold about you.

Ask us to correct inaccurate data.

Ask us to delete data we hold about you (subject to legal retention requirements).

Object to specific uses of your data.

Lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) if you believe we’ve handled your data improperly.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us via our contact page.

Third-party services we use

The site uses the following third-party services that may collect data about you:

Google Analytics (Google LLC) — for site analytics. Google’s privacy policy.

Google Fonts (Google LLC) — for typography. Loaded via Google’s CDN.

Affiliate networks — including Amazon Associates and Awin — for affiliate link tracking when you click through to retailers.

Data retention

We keep contact form submissions for as long as they remain relevant for support purposes — typically a maximum of two years, after which they’re deleted unless you’ve asked us to retain them. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics defaults (currently 14 months for most events). Server logs are typically held for 30-90 days by our hosting provider before being purged.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time as the site evolves. The “last updated” date at the top will reflect the most recent change. Material changes will be flagged on the site so returning visitors can review them.

If you have any questions about how we handle your data, please get in touch via our contact page.
